Fifty Poems to Celebrate My 50th Birthday

I’ve always found the truths of love, life, and loss reflected in the rhythms of the natural world. The endless pull of the tides, the quiet resilience of the earth, the fleeting fire of a sunset—they all speak to the joy and ache of being human.

The Nature of Love is a collection of poems I have written and collated throughout my adult life. I’ve poured my heart into capturing the spectrum of emotions we all share: the bonds of family, the pain of betrayal, the yearning for connection, and the quiet beauty of growth. Each poem is shaped by the elements—storms and rivers, forests and stars—because nature is where I find clarity and meaning when words alone fall short.

Having just turned 50 this month, this collection of poems is deeply personal to me. But it is also for you. It’s for anyone who has loved fiercely, grieved deeply, or stood at life’s crossroads unsure of the next step.

I hope these poems resonate with your own journey through life and remind you of the beauty in the ebb and flow of it all.

MY CHURCH

My forest is a sacred place,

its arches, woven trees,

its pews are moss, its candles, light

that dances in the breeze.

No hymns are sung, yet all is song—

the brook, a choir’s cry,

the collared dove, a midnight psalm,

the oak, a prayerful sigh.

No priest ordains this holy ground,

no creed commands my stay,

yet here, my spirit finds its peace,

and quiet leads my way.

For faith is etched in bark and stone,

and truth upon the air,

the forest is my church alone,

and God is everywhere.
